Unless Gerrard hits the ground running against Manchester City, we predict that Sunderland-Arsenal will be the match of the weekend. Van Persie’s injury triggered a reshuffling of the Gunners’ offense, though the team is hardly short on in-form talent. Newly contracted Eduardo will be the tip of the spear, while Arshavin and Fabregas are expected to continue taking shots (and scoring) from all over.
Wenger’s men are undefeated in 13 games, though nothing is certain going into Sunderland. First of all, they are without van Persie and it’s hard to tell how this will affect the team’s morale. We think it will not be major factor, but time will tell. Secondly, they are not accustomed to winning up north. It’s colder and harsher, which makes for a tougher, more adaptable Sunderland squad. Finally, Sunderland were victorious against Liverpool and drew at Old Trafford, and seem to have boatloads of confidents heading into today’s fixture. Stay tuned.
