FA CUP TRIUMPH FOR CHELSEA

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

Chelsea bounced back from a disappointing Champions League campaign this year, winning the Premiership and the FA cup for the first time in club history. They are now one of 7 clubs to ever claim the FA Cup double. Not a bad deal for manager Carlo Ancelotti in his first season.

Chelsea controlled the first half, but couldn’t manage to find the net. In the second half, Portsmouth began to dominate the game, but their momentum slowed when Boateng had a penalty shot blocked by Mr Golden Gloves himself. It was 1-0 to Chelsea in the end, thanks to a set piece goal from Drogba.

Considering Chelsea’s form and Pompey’s laundry list of troubles, it was a respectable result.

FA CUP TRIUMPH FOR LEEDS UNITED

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Picture 14

Leeds United was at one point (1998-2000) considered one of the best clubs in Europe.  Financial troubles (and losses) saw them fade away into 2nd, and then 3rd division competition.  The FA Cup (open to all English clubs from all divisions) pitted a now obscure Leeds against Manchester United in what many expected to be a complete bloodbath.  Not the case.

Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford scored a game opener that United never bounced back from.  After the game, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson indicated that Leeds is bound to come back to the Premiership.  The Red Devils are out of the FA cup and Leeds are set to face Tottenham on the weekend of January 23rd.
