FA CUP TRIUMPH FOR CHELSEA

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

Chelsea bounced back from a disappointing Champions League campaign this year, winning the Premiership and the FA cup for the first time in club history. They are now one of 7 clubs to ever claim the FA Cup double. Not a bad deal for manager Carlo Ancelotti in his first season.

Chelsea controlled the first half, but couldn’t manage to find the net. In the second half, Portsmouth began to dominate the game, but their momentum slowed when Boateng had a penalty shot blocked by Mr Golden Gloves himself. It was 1-0 to Chelsea in the end, thanks to a set piece goal from Drogba.

Considering Chelsea’s form and Pompey’s laundry list of troubles, it was a respectable result.

THE GENIUS OF MICHAEL ESSIEN

Earlier today, the blues treated Wolverhampton to a 4-0 lesson in pure football. With Lampard and Ballack out at Chelsea, Michael Essien and Florent Malouda inherited more responsibility all over the field. While Malouda made a serious impact, Essien was brilliant. The Ghanaian had two goals and was central to almost every key play throughout the game. Even Chelsea-haters had to appreciate the quality of today’s performance.

We want to see Arsenal find their balance. We are thinking this may not be the year for Liverpool, City, or Tottenham, and while We have a new-found respect for a post-Ronaldo Man United, there is no real match for an in-form Chelsea. They have no weaknesses and they exceed in all areas of the game. This squad could win the league for another two years without making a single change.
